Dog Training that heals. or heels. whichever you prefer.

At Compassionate Canine LLC, we believe that the raw power of a wet nose, pink tongue, and four outsized paws can be truly life-altering in granting independence to people with disabilities. Getting a dog from a service dog program can require tens of thousands of dollars, extensive applications, and sometimes years of waitlists. Many programs simply don’t have the means to train dogs for the majority of types of disabilities that can benefit from their assistance. This results in programs training dogs for a narrow scope of disability, being financially inaccessible, and unintentionally making service dogs increasingly difficult to acquire.

My mission is to help bridge that gap and make service dogs more accessible to those who need them.

I can teach YOU how to train your service dog using gentle methods, a program that moves at your pace, a training plan customized to the needs (and limitations) of your disability, and endless support, for a fraction of the cost.

bOOK A session

You and your dog deserve to work as a team. Let me show you how!

Service Dogs

My passion and specialty is training working dogs to mitigate their handler’s disability. I have trained a myriad of medical detection dogs (I trained my personal cardiac and seizure detection dog), psychiatric service animals for non-veterans, and mobility service dogs. Service dogs from programs are not financially accessible for most people with disabilities, but I can help YOU tackle the training of your own service dog for a fraction of the cost. Let me be your guide!

Behavior Modification

I have a behavior modification background training shelter dogs, my own pets, and personal clients with struggles like separation anxiety, fearfulness, lack of confidence, reactivity, aggression, severe shyness, and more. I would love to help you and your dog live a more comfortable and confident life together!

Obedience, Tricks, and Manners

Your dog doesn’t isn’t born knowing how to behave in a human’s world, so it is our job to guide them (for both of our sakes)! I can help teach your dog how to behave on a leash, in the home, and when greeting guests. It is a firm belief of mine that every canine should continue their training journey throughout their life! A great way to enrich your dog’s life and build your bond is by teaching them fun tricks and strengthening their basic obedience skills. In my opinion, earning a few titles and ribbons along the way doesn’t hurt either. I can’t wait to help you build your relationship with your dog!

Molly zabel

SHE/HER OR THEY/THEM

Dog Trainer

Molly got her start in working with animals in her youth when at eleven years old she began walking dogs for a local shelter. As a young girl she also competed in agility and trained obedience with her first dog, a rescue border collie named Weezy, who came to her with a host of anxiety issues and an abundance of love. He taught her a lot about patience. As a young adult, Molly trained her first service dog for herself after being diagnosed with a debilitating, life-changing nervous system disorder. She witnessed firsthand the power of four paws and how her service dog was able to grant her the independence that she had lost in her illness. In her determination to help others achieve the same goals, she studied under a mentor. Eventually, she began branching out on her own to help private clients train their own dogs, and Compassionate Canine was born. Molly is working towards her CPDT-KA certification. She specializes in scent training and service animals, but has a profound love for any and all of her friends, furry or otherwise, who need a little guidance here and there.

goose egg

Demonstration dog, cardiac/seizure alert dog in training

Goose is a 10 month old black Labrador retriever, stick enthusiast, and certified good boy. He has been lovingly dubbed ‘The Swiss Army Knife of Dogs’ by his handler for all of the diverse jobs he has taken on so far in his young life. He is a Compassionate Canine demonstration dog, a working medical detection service dog, and is studying for his trick dog titles! He enjoys swimming in the smelliest swamp water imaginable, mercilessly shredding plush toys, and bounding through the Colorado snow. Goose’s enthusiasm for life is unrivaled and his joy is infectious. If you were to ask him, he would be quick to let you know that you have just found yourself a new best friend with some tail wags so powerful they get his entire body wiggling, and maybe if you’re lucky, a big kiss on the cheek. He spends most of his time training hard with Molly or cozied up sound asleep, snoring like a freight train.
